Here’s something most workers didn’t expect — Singapore’s Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) payouts have officially gone up in 2025. The government has raised the maximum annual support to $4,900, expanded eligibility, and introduced monthly payments for platform workers. Let’s simplify what’s changed and how it affects you.
Why the WIS Scheme Was Enhanced
You might be wondering why this update came now. Rising living costs, wage growth, and inflation pushed the government to revise the scheme under Budget 2025. The goal is to support lower-wage workers, encourage steady employment, and boost CPF savings for long-term security.
Who Qualifies Under the New Rules
Starting January 2025, Singapore citizens aged 30 and above earning between $500 and $3,000 monthly are eligible. Persons with disabilities qualify regardless of age. You must not own more than one property, and if married, your spouse’s income must be below $70,000 annually.
Monthly Payments for Platform Workers
Here’s a major shift — platform workers like delivery riders and freelancers will now receive monthly WIS payouts instead of annual lump sums. CPF contributions will be deducted and submitted monthly by platform operators, making the system more predictable and timely.
WIS Payouts by Age Group – 2025 Update
Age Group | Maximum Annual WIS (SGD) |
---|---|
30–34 | $2,450 |
35–44 | $3,500 |
45–59 | $4,200 |
60 and above | $4,900 |
Persons with disabilities | $4,900 |
These figures reflect the new payout caps for employees. Self-employed persons receive two-thirds of these amounts, while platform workers are aligned with SEP rates.
What You Should Do Now
If you’re employed, you don’t need to apply — payouts are automatic based on CPF contributions. Self-employed workers must declare income and contribute to MediSave to qualify. Make sure your PayNow NRIC linkage and CPF records are updated to avoid delays.
